Introduction

Carefulness is a wide-capturing term in the field of nursing as it refers to the avoidance of any type of harm to the patients and nurses alike. Hospitals are known for the presence of danger in the form of potential infections or a possible worsening of patient condition due to negligence. As such, the best nurses are very careful since it helps them in their day-to-day roles to better their performance and engagement with other stakeholders. For instance, being careful resonates with ensuring the high-risk work environment does not lead to an increase in hospital-acquired infections. Careful nurses are aware of their surrounding which has items such as blood or sharp needles used on patients. Additionally, nurses are urged to be careful as it is the basis of nursing practice, policies, and rules that guide the whole practice of healthcare. Per se, standard regulations have specific ‘care guidelines’ on how nurses should conduct themselves to show care. Failure to adhere to the carefulness guidelines could lead to the loss of licence of practice and fines for the hospital (Meehan, Timmins, & Burke, 2018).
