Ethanol fuel has gained widespread attraction as a great alternative to petroleum-based fuels such as gasoline in Brazil. The phenomenon is synonymously attributed to the positive effects of ethanol as opposed to gasoline fuel. One of the reasons surrounds the economics of ethanol as an alternative to gasoline. Ideally, ethanol is cheaper to extract than gasoline since it can be manufactured from the alteration of carbon-based feeds such as barley, corn, and sugarcane (Mayer, Feris, Marcilio & Hoffmann, 2015). Consequently, countries such as Brazil opt to use ethanol since a majority of vehicles in the use a combination of gas and ethanol to run their engines.
