A counterclaim refers to the arguments made by a writer to
show that the opposing opinions are incorrect or invalid. The counterclaims are
often made from a personal view which allows readers to add their personal
opinions to the argumentative essay. The counterclaim also improves the whole
quality of the essay as it offers the readers with space to make their personal
interpretations of the argument and reliability. The quality of the
counterclaim also shows the level of skill and research done when writing the
argumentative essay. It depicts the ability of the writer to apply different
viewpoints and perspectives using critical thinking skills.
