Meaning of Philosophy of Nursing According to Edwards, (1997), philosophy of nursing is a word that affirms the values, ethics, and beliefs of nursing with regards to their treatment and care of patients while they are in their profession. Though the philosophy seems to be merely speculative and logical for any use, it is crucial to approach the nursing profession properly. For this reason, I can say that the philosophy of nursing identifies and highlights the beliefs nurses feel to be essential to the profession itself. Nurses view philosophy of nurses differently. First there are other nurses who view it as a way that aids them to accomplish better health care by saving the lives of many people through physiology, science, and psychology (Mackintosh-Franklin, 2016). It may consist of the emergency room nurses, neonatal care units, mental health nurses who get involved in the mental well and health of the patient. Some nurses view the philosophy of nursing as a statement that has a more profound divine means that goes beyond physiology, medicine, and psychology. It may consist of the nurses who provide alternative medicine and holistic care where the personal emotions, religion, and beliefs of the patient play an essential function in the kind of care the patient gets. For other nurses, the statement represents a connection they have with other members of the family or heritage where the preceding generations worked as nurses. From the perception, people who work as nurses are a way of showing respect for the generations of nurses that existed before in the family by signifying the family's academic and educational beliefs, choices, and lifestyle in a particular light. I would then say that the philosophy of nursing is an individual’s attitude and perspective that is part of the belief one has regarding the nursing field and the importance of their nursing practice and education. Nursing In the current century, nursing is something that has held together with the journey of the health of the patient. As a result, nurses have worked diligently to protect and identify the needs of the patients. Their responsibility lies in making sure that there are accurate diagnoses of patients to the continuing public health education regarding serious health problems to being compassionate and dedicated when addressing the requirements of the society. Therefore, nursing is defined as a field that ensures that the sick and the injured people are taken care of and there is provision of preventive health care to well individuals (Jarrin, 2007). Nurses offer their services to several settings, including long-term facilities, hospitals, businesses, public health units, mental health centers, and public schools. Through nursing, the lives of people are then saved and improved. The nurses get to evaluate and monitor the sick, takes a universal approach, and determines the needs of the patients to preserve and achieve their health. They offer care, and if there is a need, they alert other physicians of health care to help them in treating the sick. According to Watson (2011), it is hence clear that nursing consists of collaborative and autonomous care people all ages, families, communities, and groups, the well and the sick, and in all backgrounds.
