Databases are accessed over a given network through the use of components which are independent of each other and found beneath a programming interface. These components includes programming interface such as CLI, IPC such as TCP/IP sockets, network protocols such as TCP/IP, physical network such as Ethernet and data stream protocol (Frazier, Reed & Wewerka, 2005). Programming interface is used to house the all the calls that are made by an application, the calls are specific to a given DBMS and are usually based on ISO standards. Using the data stream protocols, the stream of data to be passed between the DBMS is described, these protocols are implemented using interposes communication which allows for the communication between processes. Once a given data stream has been described, network protocols such as TCP are used to transport the data through the network.
