The described healthcare issue is the shortage of specialized trained nurses not only in the developing countries but also in the developed ones. The shortage means that the nurses are not able to handle cases such as mental issues when a patient comes to the hospital as they do not have the necessary knowledge to assist. There have been increasing issues of mental issue in the United States where more than 40 million people are suffering from it (Aiken, Cheung, & Olds, 2018). The competing needs which impact shortage of specialized trained nurses is the issue of available resources and low employment of nurses. Specialized trained nurses should handle the cases where they have invested their time to acquire their knowledge in and this is not the cases in many hospitals. In numerous instance, specialized nurses are given any role and this makes them feel like they wasted their times in trying to acquire a specific area. Moreover, the specialized trained nurses may require better pay as they have gone the extra mile to learn or acquire certification which shows they have specialized in a particular forte. For instance, Anne Arundel Medical Center opened a nursing school that offers nurses with a bachelor’s degree and this is a great step in increasing the number of specialized trained nurses. The challenges that arise is one the nurse graduated they are demotivated since the positions they are employed to work in are not of their specialization.
