Your assignment is to write an 800-900 word essay based on your analysis of at least 15 runaway slaves ads published in American newspapers during the 18th and 19th centuries.  Please choose a minimum of 15 ads from the newspaper collections listed below.  You should use at least two different newspapers.  Once you have read the ads, you will use the information you have learned from them to write about the kinds of information included in the ads and why the owners included it.  What can you learn about slave relationships in the ads? What do the ads reveal about the ways that owners felt about their slaves?  What do runaway slave ads reveal about slavery, race and class relations in  America?
