The purpose of this assignment is to help: a) students practice how public administrators implement decisions from agency rules; b) examine how case law from courts impact bureaucratic decision-making; and, c) practice applying decision-making theory in the real world context of administrative law implementation by public administrators.

Assignment Skills Tested:

Students will understanding basic disciplinary knowledge and methods/tools associated with decision theory. Apply and practice basic disciplinary knowledge/tools to problem-solving in a similar but unfamiliar context in order to judge ad evaluate the case outcome.

Assignment Task:

In this case brief assignment, students will consider how public administrators will implement certain requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Students will brief the case and at the end have a decision-analysis section and reflection component.

Criteria for Success:

Students will utilize the handout for the IRAC (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion) to help with the case analysis. Students will use the assigned reading materials to assist with the decision-making component and final reflection. Students will not give personal opinions on whether they like the outcome of the case. Students instead will focus on how theories of decision-making apply to administrative law cases and impacts on decision-making.
