In America, there is a tight relationship between politics and media. First, media is a significant means of expression of politics. In other words, media is the platform of some political issues, so some politicians work on politics via media text, like Facebook and Twitter. According to the article “ How social media is running politics,” “Ever since the so-called Facebook election of 2008, Obama has been a pacesetter in using social media to connect with the public.” Obama’s sample shows that social media plays an important role in political field. In addition, the general public can know politics, talk about politics, and take part in politics through social media. Media is definitely a convenient platform for citizens. In the article “Trump's Rhetoric of White Nostalgia”, the investigated form named “Who is most concerned with cultural change” presents some opinions from different people who participate in politics. However, in some poor and developing countries, the situation is totally different with America. In those countries, people do not have rights taking part in politics from media. Media is not a public stage, just a tool to convey the news of government. The other interesting thing that I noticed from the article is the developing process of media. Decades ago, radio is the major media, and then, television became prevalent. In modern society, everyone has a smartphone as the tool to connect politics. Taking a overall consideration, the connection between media and politics is more close.
Example#2
In today’s day and age politics and media are so tightly interwoven. So much so that it’s almost as if they are one in the same. The way certain media outlets choose to report stories at specifics times trying to hone in on their target audience to stir up chaos and collecting more views which ultimately brings in more money. Not to mention the backdoor handshakes that occur between political candidates and big news stations. Candidates can take in vast amounts of money from domestic and international donations. If that candidate pays the news station to report faulty polls or tweak the truth of certain events, it will stir up the public opinion and spark debates on the street left and right. In the big picture the candidate and news station are winning. The news station is generating more viewership and taking in money from candidates to help them look more favorable in the public eye. This is a win win situation for the fat cats benefiting from the political media system that has evolved today. Media will be the defining factor that shapes many elections and political positions to come in the near future. Let’s just hope the public can catch on and not make their decisions through deceit.
