Unsophisticated outline for the dissertation of ‘ Analysis of speaking and lexical strategies: a comparison of several English coursebooks in China for low-intermediate adult learners
1. Basic explanation for this topic.
English teaching has gained great popularity in China for many years, when the variety of English course books were established and a number of institutions came out. However, relatively less attention has been paid to adult English learning, which is possibly the main reason why I want to do some research in this area. At first, I am inclined to make a comparison between English course books in China and Britain, just the previous proposal I sent you before. Such comparison will make this structure of the dissertation clearer, and it is easier for me to expand my thoughts and write more. But these days, thus I abandon this comparison, and transfer to inner comparison between several different coursebooks that frequently used in China. I am more familiar to these books. After all, my aim is to discover relatively more perfect way to design an English course book for adults in China based on the strength and weakness of these course books. Specially, I choose speaking and lexis as the research direction, where speaking is a more practical skill for adults and vocabulary is the foundation of all the skills. Additionally, most adult have great difficulty in learning or memorizing words. Therefore, both two aspects are the toughest and pressing tasks for adult learning.
Ideas
According to some of materials, material analysis should included a number of requirements below:
1). Identifying the aims and objectives of your teaching program.
Analysing the learning / teaching situation in which the material will be used.
2). Evaluation among a list of potential coursebooks.
Choose some criteria and prioritize certain criterion.
Simple outline
I listed a very easy outline for you to check whether this topic is appropriate, whether I need to narrow down or broad other skills or grammar.

At first, speaking can be divided into three categories, which might be clearer in terms of structure. Then, each step will be analyzed into certain criteria like fluency, accuracy, creative communication. Finally, authentic texts will be introduced to further evaluate these coursebooks.
3. Several English course books in China that I used.
A. New interchange (published in Cambridge university)
A very popular course book frequently used in China, which is familiar to you.
It involves speaking, listening, reading, and writing, phonetic practice and vocabulary expansion.
B. New concept English
There are four volumes for this book. I particularly select volume1 due to the level of low-intermediate.
C. Word link
Focus on cross-cultural communication, topics, and dialogues.
D. BEC
Cline to the real working situation.
