Psychologists have extensively developed various ways of studying people's behaviour and thoughts. School of thoughts, for instance, has been used by psychologist to shape the manner in which human behaviour is being investigated. In this case, some psychologists attribute that early experiences of a child are an explanation of a particular behaviour while others may claim that certain behaviours are due to biological factors like genes. This paper, therefore, describes the behavioural, humanistic and cognitive school of thoughts giving details of how these theories are different and similar.

According to Neisser (2014), the cognitive school of thought examines the mental processes of an individual. It comprises of the way people perceive, thinks, learns and remember things. In this type of psychology, cognitive psychologists consider using scientific approaches to evaluate thought patterns. It contends that answers to problems take the system of insights, heuristics, and algorithms. Therefore, cognitive school of thought deals with the methods used to process information by human beings, what stimulates human beings and the way the behaviour results in reactions. In other words, cognitive school of thought investigates the internal mental processes such as memory, language and problem-solving.
