Stress
is a very uncomfortable feeling that is currently on the rise and affects all
people. It mainly impacts teenagers due to the work and school activities,
relationships as well as challenges of life that they go through. Stress also
triggers depression thus affecting the physical health of the individual. Among
its symptoms are chest pain, fatigue, anxiety, headache, and restlessness.
Therefore, parents should always ensure that their children are free from
stress and when they identify the affected teenagers, they should seek help to
prevent further problems. This paper hence discusses the effects of stress on
teenagers.
Stress leads to the abuse
of drugs among teenagers. It is because teenagers see it as a way to forget the
problems they are going through. In this case, the teenagers end up abusing
tobacco, alcohol, cocaine and other drugs which negatively impacts their health
by worsening their mental illness (Pompili,
45). Teenagers should, therefore, be advised to attend counseling
sessions when facing stress. This will help them know how to deal with the life
situations instead of abusing drugs.
Stress can also make
teenagers make poor decisions. When teenagers suffer from stress, they always
tend to do or chose things that have consequences (Colten, 34). For instances, they can decide not to
attend school, do a particular exam or even drop out of school. It is because
their level of stress has impacted their level of judging and reasoning thus
making them choose the riskier conclusion which may bring regrets later.
