Introduction and Purpose of Assignment
The skill of listening is one of the competencies of becoming an ethical communicator. Though listening addresses the receiver, it is vitally important to the overall communication model. Effective ethical communication is often disrupted because of the lack of listening skills.

Objectives

• Discover effective interpersonal communication skills. (2.2)

Theory and Context
There are a variety of things that need to happen within a conversation in order for effective ethical communication to occur. How we listen can change the discussion. Active listening, as demonstrated in the video below, is one way to get more information and develop a different rapport with the other person.

Instructions
1. Examine Brownell’s six listening components to effective listening. With them in mind, reflect on an in-depth conversation you had this week. Provide a 2-3 page journal entry, addressing the presence, or absence, of each component. Address how you can improve on each component.
2. Basic APA formatting is required for title page and text formatting.
3. Post your journal as an attachment to the dropbox titled Wk2 Listening Competency Journal by the end of the week.

Grading Guide or Rubric:
Journal is graded for coverage of the assignment requirements, page length, grammar, and formatting.
