Central Line Associated Blood Steam Infections (CLABSI) are among the most common and deadly type of nosocomial infections with a mortality rate of about 12 to 25% (Chua, 2010). Indicators such as use of invasive devices, underlying infections, and weak immunity exposes patients especially those that are in ICUs at a high risk acquiring CLABSIs. It is of great importance for one to properly understand how these microorganisms gain access to the patients’ bloodstream and cause the associated infections. Entry could be through; insertion of a catheter, accessing a catheter for medication, flushing and tubing or when changing the catheter cap, infection in other body parts, through use of contaminated medication or fluid infusions such as normal saline or dextrose or by the prolonged insertion of catheters
