Abstract

There are up to date numerous security vulnerabilities in web applications. The number of these security vulnerabilities has shown to rise with the growth of web applications in the last twenty years. As the web application’s domain is seen to be maturing, a significant number of empirical studies that have been conducted in the discipline of web applications seem to address the issue of the vulnerabilities of web applications to intruder attack and how to solve such vulnerabilities. Nonetheless, before commencing the finding of new detection approaches for web application security vulnerabilities, there is need to synthesize and analyze existing evidence base studies in the area of web applications.

In order to make this a realization, this paper will consider the existing research of empirical work in web applications while aiming at providing the reader with the various findings of web application security vulnerabilities and their corresponding methods of detection that have been proven to be efficient and effective on a conventional and technical basis. In order to complete a paper with such qualities, a thorough survey of existing literature has been conducted to ensure the legitimacy of the information provided in this work of academic research has been profoundly proven to be essential in providing insight into various aspects concerning web application vulnerabilities and the specific methods for detecting them.
