How can you make sense of both implicit and explicit teaching in terms of writing? Is there a way to teach writing that encompasses both aspects?

Like with many aspects of educational theory, there are a few different approaches, which I am going to simplify by calling them implicit and explicit teaching models. The implicit teaching model supports the idea of emergent literacy, which says that children learn to read and write simply by having opportunities to see print in use and by engaging in activities where literacy is embedded in the task. The explicit teaching model supports the idea that children need instructors to help them make sense of the more abstract features of our written language (like letter names and sounds). Your response to reading this week is to answer the question: How can you make sense of both implicit and explicit teaching in terms of writing? Is there a way to teach writing that encompasses both aspects?
