Clinical Ethics Case Study

For the Unit 2 assignment, you examined one of the theories of ethical reasoning from Chapter 2

of your Campbell text. Note that, in each unit, you will continue to use case studies as the basis

for an analysis, using each of the different ethical theories in turn. By Unit 5, you will have

analyzed all five different ethical theories.

1. Consequentialism

2. Communitarianism

3. Libertarianism

4. Deontological

5. Virtue Ethics

For this discussion:

 Choose a different ethical theory from the one you analyzed in the Unit 2 assignment, to

use with a different case study.

 Choose one of the issues in clinical ethics from Chapter 4, and find a case study about the

issue. Use the Coughlin resource, Case Studies in Public Health Ethics and/or the Center

for Practical Bioethics Web site (linked in the Resources) to find a relevant case study.

 Using an ethical theory from Chapter 2 and an ethical perspective from Chapter 3,

analyze the case study.

Be sure to clearly identify the study you have chosen to analyze in your post, and include a

reference. If your case study includes an analysis, you may use it as a resource to add to your

own analysis, as long as you quote, paraphrase, and cite appropriately.

In your analysis:

1. State the facts of the case study as briefly as possible.

2. State the ethical theory you are using.

3. Add any perspectives you think are valid.

4. Using the theory and the perspectives, come to an ethical decision and demonstrate how

you arrived there.
