THE CULTURAL ENVIROnMENT IS MY PORTION * Cultural Environment: Start with a vertical bar chart with 4 Hofstede scores for the country along with the US scores (properly formatted in with titles, scores, source citation). A statement of specific practical business-function FDI implication(s) are for the company’s marketing, HRM practices, and business-to-business/government interactions based on the risk this chart reveals. (Do NOT restate definitions or cultural generalities.) This is for me to be sure you are not completely off the track in terms of the purpose of this exercise. After this state what the main Hofstede cultural risk is, and in the final sentence state “The cultural risk is ____ (Low, Medium, or High)”. will write a term paper concerning the feasibility and risks of a potential US corporation’s foreign direct investment (FDI) into a foreign country. The paper will be graded on content as well as presentation (organization of ideas, grammar, spelling, and conformance to style specifications). Content of the paper includes an analysis of major current social/cultural, political and economic issues and trends. You will use charts and graphs to illustrate appropriate concepts and trends. Do not use any particular company, real or hypothetical, but analyze the environment for any type of corporate FDI. Be critical – do not miss the major negatives! Get to the important points; do not fill the paper with fluff, history, facts or discussion not relevant to FDI. Current examples of foreign firm experiences should be included (real corporate examples are good but do not make this paper a case study of any single real company). There will be an evaluation of FDI strategic options and recommendations with justifications. The paper should be convincing to a non-business reader. Style: No art-graphics allowed. The entire paper, including Title Page, should be double-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman. Margins should be one inch all around. Length of the paper is about 8 pages of text, NOT including Title Page, Table of Contents, Charts and References. Title page should include a relevant title including the country name (centered 1/3rd from top of page). Student’s names, course number with section, and date should be centered 1/3rd from bottom of page. Only text pages will be numbered (bottom center) beginning with the Introduction (do NOT number Title page and TOC and do NOT use running headers). References and in-text citations should follow the American Psychological Association's (APA) publication guidelines. There MUST NOT be any orphan citations or references. References should be of high quality and include some from The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, and/or The Financial Times. You may not cite textbooks or non-authoritative sources such as WikiPedia; if you do they will be counted against you. Final papers should be delivered to me via email (to check with turn-it-in for originality) as well as hardcopy for ground-based sections. Late papers and papers with substantial plagiarism will have the grade significantly reduced or NOT be accepted for credit (ALL group members are responsible for ensuring originality and so ALL group members must closely proof-read the paper). Each group will pick a separate country from the list on this page. No two groups may have the same country. The first step is to find sufficient current country “issues” in the Wall Street Journal, The Economist, The Financial Times, the daily news, or other high-level business news source.l
