Background and Past Medical History
Jack Thomas is a 13-year-old patient who has been admitted to
the children’s ward with a fractured distal Tibia and Fibula following a
skateboard accident.
Jack admits to regularly smoking 5-10
cigarettes per day and is known to have asthma. He is two days post-surgery and
his condition remains stable.
Scenario
Jack’s mom is a single parent and has to leave Jack
for long periods of the day and night in order to work. During Jack’s stay in
hospital, you notice Jack has become withdrawn and has been isolating himself.
In an attempt to build a therapeutic
relationship, you sit down with him to keep him company. Jack discloses that he
feels depressed and has suicidal thoughts. He uncovers his right forearm where
there is evidence of self-harm, he begs you not to tell anyone.
Write
a 1,500 word essay to discuss the biological, psychological, and social factors
relating to one clinical case study from those provided, and examine the role
of the nurse in caring for the individual, including the legal, professional
and ethical aspects of care. Identify and discuss communication strategies used
by the nurse and a health promotion requirement relevant to your chosen case
