Step 1: Introduction A good introduction should be no more than 1 paragraph grabbing the reader’s attention providing insight into teaching styles, learning styles, and student diversity. End with a strong thesis or purpose statement. Note: the thesis should be condensed to 1 brief purpose statement. Will be utilizing Vark Learning Tool for assessments for myself and students. Will attach. Step 2: Discussion of Teaching Styles Self-Assessment First you should start by searching for a teaching styles self-assessment tool that you want to use for this paper and then complete the tool. I will utilize Vark teaching self-assessment tool. See attached report. You will need to be able to answer the following questions in the body of your paper: Describe the teaching styles assessment tool you chose for this paper and why. 1. Who developed it? 2. How many items does it have and how is it scored? 3. What are the possible results (teaching styles)? 4. Briefly describe each of the possible results (teaching styles) 5. Why did you choose this teaching styles assessment tool? *Be sure to cite the teaching styles self-assessment tool within the paper* Step 3: Scoring and Results of the Teaching Styles Self-Assessment Tool After filling out the teaching styles self-assessment tool you will need to score your results to determine your preferred teaching style. You will need to be able to answer the following questions in the body of your paper: After scoring the tool please summarize your results: 1. What were your scores? 2. What is your most dominant teaching style? 3. What is your least dominant teaching style? Step 4: Comparison of Teaching Styles with Teaching Strategies and Types of Learners After determining your most dominant teaching style you need to discuss what teaching strategies you would be most comfortable using in the classroom and/or clinical setting. Teaching strategies is bolded and underlined because students often think teaching styles and teaching strategies are the same thing, but they are not. A teaching style describes your personality as a teacher (ex. a delegating teaching style) but a teaching strategy is the actual thing you will do in the classroom (ex. PowerPoint presentation, lead a group discussion, do a demonstration of a nursing skill). Based on your dominant teaching style you will be more comfortable using certain teaching strategies over others. So in this section of your paper I want you to do some reading/research and figure out what type of students (learners) would benefit most (or match best) to your identified teaching style AND teaching strategies. You will need to be able to answer the following questions in the body of your paper: 1. Based on your identified teaching style, what teaching strategies would you be most comfortable using in the classroom and/or clinical setting? I am comfortable utilizing power point presentations/lectures, hands on demonstration, group activities, simulation activities, virtual interactive case studies and games, flip the classroom activities 2. What type of learners would best benefit from your identified teaching style and teaching strategies? * Be sure to provide citations from literature/textbooks as needed within this section of your paper* Step 5: Discussion of Selected Learning Styles Self-Assessment Tool Next, you need to search for a learning styles questionnaire that is free of charge. You need to find a small group (5-10) of people to give the learning styles questionnaire to (church group, other nurses, family, etc) and score the results. They will be your “learners.” You will need to answer the following questions in the body of your paper about the tool: Describe the learning styles assessment tool you chose for this paper and why. Vark learning style tool. Administered test to college students who elected to participate. Were of various ages, 3 Caucasian females, 3 African American females, and 2 males. They were able to complete online at their leisure, free of pressure or bias. Reports included. 1. Who developed it? 2. How many items does it have and how is it scored? 3. What are the possible results (learning styles)? 4. Briefly describe each of the possible results (learning styles) 5. Why did you choose this learning styles assessment tool? *Be sure to cite the learning styles self-assessment tool within the paper* Step 6: Scoring and Results of the Learning Styles Self-Assessment Tool After getting your set of “learners” to fill out the learning styles self-assessment tool you will need to score the results to determine what learning styles are present in your group of “learners”. You will need to be able to answer the following questions in the body of your paper: See above comments for details. Vark assessments included. 1. Briefly describe your set of learners (ex. how many, gender, ages, etc). 2. What were the scores? 3. What type of learning styles were present in the group of learners? Step 7: Comparison of Learning Styles with Teaching Styles and Teaching Strategies After determining the various types of learning styles present within your group of “learners” you need to determine if your identified dominant teaching style would meet the needs of this group of “learners.” You need to do some research/read to determine if your teaching style “matches” the learning styles present in your group. If not, how could you change your teaching style to meet their needs? Would another teaching style be more beneficial for the group? Would you need to try to incorporate more than on type of teaching style? Remember that teaching style is similar to your teaching personality and NOT actual activities to do in the classroom. Then, you also need to think about teaching strategies. Remember in Step 4 you identified some teaching strategies that you would be comfortable using in the classroom and/or clinical setting. Now it is time to think about if those teaching strategies would be helpful for your identified group of learners based on their learning styles. For example, if all of your learners have a kinesthetic learning preference, and you found that doing PowerPoint lectures was a teaching strategy you are comfortable with, would that work for your learners? If not, what types of teaching strategies would best “match” the learning styles present in your group of “learners”? How would you need to adapt your teaching strategies to meet their needs? Remember that teaching strategies are the actual activities or things you will do in the classroom and/or clinical setting. You will need to be able to answer the following questions in the body of your paper: 1. Based on the results of the learning styles present in the group you surveyed, would your identified dominant style of teaching meet the needs of this diverse group of learners? If not, how could you adapt to another identified style of teaching. 3. Previously in this paper you determined what teaching strategies would you be most comfortable using in the classroom and/or clinical setting based on your identified dominant teaching style. Would those teaching strategies work for the group of learners your surveyed? Would it meet their varied learning styles or would you have to incorporate other strategies? If so, what would be those additional teaching strategies? Be sure to provide some specific examples. * Be sure to provide citations from literature/textbooks as needed within this section of your paper* Step 8: Discussion of Student Diversity Finally, you need to select two student diversity groups from the list below. These groups of learners have various characteristics or challenges that can influence the teaching and learning principles we as faculty should incorporate in the classroom and/or clinical setting. It is very important that faculty be familiar with the characteristics and needs of all student diversity groups in order to help everyone be successful in the classroom. • Native American Students • Hispanic/Latino Students • African American Students • Millennial/Gen Z students • Men in Nursing • Transgender Nursing Students • Veterans Entering into Nursing • First Generation College Students • Students at Risk of Failing out of the Nursing Program • English as a Second Language Students • Adult Learners • Students with Learning Disabilities You will need to do some research/reading about your selected group and determine some of their characteristics and challenges they might experience when in the nursing program. Then you need to determine what strategies we as faculty can do to help this student diversity group succeed within their educational endeavors. You will need to answer the following questions within the body of your paper: 1. Identify the type of student diversity group you selected from list presented in the instructions and why you chose them. 2. Describe characteristics and challenges of this student diversity group. 3. What are strategies that you found in your required readings or literature that can help this student diversity group succeed in their educational endeavors? * Be sure to provide citations from literature/textbooks as needed within this section of your paper* Step 9: Comparison of Teaching Strategies/Teaching Styles to Identified Student Diversity Group After learning more about your student diversity group, you need to compare their characteristics and learning preferences to your identified teaching style and teaching strategies that you discussed in step 3 and 4 above. Would your identified teaching style and teaching strategies be a good “match” for them, or would you need to adjust them. If you need to adjust them, how would you do that? What would you do? You will need to answer the following questions within the body of your paper: 1. Do you think your identified teaching style and teaching strategies that you have previously discussed would be effectively used with your identified student diversity group? If not, what strategies do you think would be effective? How would you adapt your teaching style or strategies? Step 10: Use of Learning Styles Questionnaire with Identified Student Diversity Group The final thing you need to think about for this paper is if you think it would be beneficial having this student diversity group complete the learning styles questionnaire that you used with your “learners” in step 5 and 6 above. Why or why not? If you did have this student group complete the questionnaire, how would you use the results as a faculty member? You will need to answer the following questions within the body of your paper: 1. Do you think it would be beneficial having this student diversity group complete the learning styles questionnaire that you used above with your own group of learners? Why or why not? 2. How would you use the results as a faculty member? Step 11: Conclusion Conclude the entire paper by summarizing each section. Do not repeat what you did in the paper,
