It was my first time watching the documentary and, while it was heavy, I found it really well structured and you could clearly tell the point the author was trying to make. It drew a lot of attention to violence of all kinds and I liked that it not only directed the blame to the true cause, but also showed how society has built itself around blaming others for the wrongdoings men have shown. It traced violent actions back to the root of the cause, which is the issue of fragile masculinity and not wanting to appear "weak" and "feminine" in the eyes of other men. That men turn to violence because they felt shamed, weaker, and perceived as less of a man due to the scrutiny from their peers. The best example of this in the film was when this group of boys were arrested for beating and murdering homeless people. They were recorded in saying that the reason they did it was because it was "fun" and that it was a way for them to feel powerful. I'm also glad they mentioned mental illness. It's used a lot in media to humanize the killers and people who commit violent acts, making them less at fault for their actions. Mental illness may play a role, but it's mostly used as a scapegoat in the eyes of media. The ending of the documentary, I thought, was brought together very nicely in the author's call to action to challenge social norms and change the definition of manhood in hopes to curve the violence that is so prominent in our society.
