  Parent's Consent

Parental consent is generally required before a minor is given any treatment or medical evaluation in a healthcare setting. However, adolescents and children might require treatment or medical evaluation for emergency medical conditions that arise in a situation in which the legal guardian or parent is not available. In these conditions, where parental consent cannot be sought, it is prudent to let the adolescent patient possess the legal authority to consent for medical evaluation or treatment.[1] It is ethical not to refuse minors treatment or medical evaluation because the parent did not consent, especially if the parent or legal guardian was not physically available to provide consent.
