Aircraft Component: Intermediate Pressure Compression Blade 

a.     Provide a brief summary as an introduction to the report: a review of how your component functions, loading modes as part of a system and describing which material is used conventionally. (5 marks)

b.     Evaluate how the current material used & component geometry influence the choice of manufacturing routes that are feasible. Relate how your selected manufacturing route imparts microstructural changes to the material. (6 marks)

c.      Review any surface considerations relevant to your component (e.g. corrosion, wear, erosion) and indicate how such issues can addressed by surface treatment appropriate for the material selected.  (4 marks)

d.     Discuss any alternate material(s) that could be used for your chosen component. Select an advanced material based on a combination of justification, the relevant material indices, appropriate published literature and reasoned discussion/argument.  Focus on advanced materials such as composites (polymer, metal or ceramic matrix), ceramics and high performance alloys as is relevant to the component in question.                       (15 marks)
