CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

There are number of ways in which computer affect human lives which are uncountable and numerous to mention. Computer process the function with much faster speed and greater accuracy. So among the various information system of data processing my project “MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN MANAGING HOSPITAL INFORMATION SYSTEM” is one of the data processing system, which mainly concerns with the management of patients record in the hospital made the entire performance computerized.

This project is aimed to develop a hospital management system which will help hospitals to collect most of the information about Hospitality and Medical Services. A mobile short message service will be implemented into the system which will enhance the hospital management and also help in patients records keeping. Using mobile technology, the SMS will serve for pre and post appointment reminder to patients which will increase hospital administrative efficiency, wellness and improve availability of health care information. The system will also reduce waiting time in the hospital and increase accuracy and efficiency and enhance productivity.

AIM

The project’s aim is to develop and implement a hospital information system using mobile technology. This system will allow registered patients to login to the Patient Portal which will enable patients to interact and communicate with the hospital management. The technology that this system will use is mobile technology applied to home health which allows patients to book for an appointment with the hospital from home and get a pre and post appointment SMS reminder on their mobile phones to confirm when to visit the hospital and when to have their medication. This mobile device interface is integrated into websites.

Mobile technology is touching virtually every aspect of our lives to the extent of creating dependency. Entry of mobile devices in the healthcare arena is a very recent development and hence is still in infancy (Bajwa 2014).

OBJECTIVES

o    To analyze a healthcare support system in the hospital which will eliminate all the hassles in paper registration, keeping track of medical records, prescriptions, queue systems, callings and computerized details regarding patient records and hospital details.

o    To select the most suitable tools, techniques and methodology to develop a hospital management system.

o    To design and develop a central storage database using ( PHP MySQL) for keeping medical record and all the information functions, data can be retrieved from the database

o    To design and implement the graphical user interface to manage doctors’ and patients’ records and patients online appointment transactions.

o    To develop and implement a hospital information system using mobile technology.

o    To apply various testing technique like acceptance, unit, performance and system quality testing for all the functionalities in the system.
