“12 Years a Slave” gained so much appraisal throughout the world for the approach it took to address the issue of slavery that is considered as America’s original sin. The film talks mainly about how free black men were sold into slavery by their white counterparts without as much as a shade of humanity accorded to them. The issue of slavery had become notorious in America in the 1800s. Slavery involves subjecting individuals to hard labor or other forms of mistreatments without as much as a minimum wage to help them lead a civilized life. Ideally, a slave is defined as a person who is a legal property of another, and in most instances, this individual is forced to obey his or her owner. As a matter of fact, a slave is always subjected to very difficult work as depicted in the film “12 Years a Slave”.
