Emily Dickinson's Feminist Approach in Her Poems

Emily Dickinson was a feminist author by choice. The works of literature that she wrote over the course of her life mostly held strongly onto the themes of gender and feminist criticism. Most of her poems depict the society as a form of patriarchal existence that does not give women the chance to express their own feelings through leading a “free” life as opposed to the life led in “captivity.” It is not uncommon to find that her works of literature mainly take the persona of a Woman as she goes through a certain topic that displays the feminist message that she strives so much to take to the world beyond (Homans, pg.223). Feminist literary criticism often occurs in today’s literal world. The 21^st century has been bombarded with a series of numerous texts that depict feminism in almost each sentence and paragraph of the works of literature. However, this paper is going to focus on the feminist works of literature of the past centuries. This is going to be achieved by using a feminist criticism methodology to discuss the structural or rather the thematic similarity in at least three different works of literature by Emily Dickinson.
