student leader at the university is no easy task. However much the challenges
may come, I keep on solving one issue at a time. By doing this I have been able
to identify one of the best methods of resolving conflict situations that may
endanger the life of anyone on campus. More so, University of Cambridge is
great university with rich history. I can therefore, say without lying that the
University of Cambridge has a very diverse culture that tends to provide the
appropriate environment for students to study in and the subordinate staff to
work.

student leader at the university is no easy task.

As I have been interacting with
students all over campus during my tenure as a student leader. I have had so
many experiences that are valuable to my cause of leadership. These experiences
are what have guided me to become the leader I am today. However, the
experiences are not all that fun. There have been some bad experiences here and
there. But the most important thing is to rise above all this negativity and
learn something valuable from the mistakes one makes as a leader. Generally, the
faculty and students at the University of Cambridge are good to work with. The
culture that the University has grown since its inception is one to bring out
the best in each and every students and member of staff. Therefore, the
students have proved to be crucial and important to the cause of leadership. The
reason being that the students are very compliant and cooperative. However,
there does not lack one or two isolated cases that lead to some bad experiences
to me as a leader and the administration of the University. It would be okay to
say that the diverse characters found in the university helps in diplomacy in
solving issues that arise every now and then.
Leadership is not an easy thing.
Especially if there is no cooperation. As a leader, I endeavor to serve with
selflessness. And provide my outmost best to the people that I am representing.
One has to learn from others in order to lead in the almost perfect manner.
Motivation is a very significant factor. As a leader I have received motivation
and mentoring from different parties that are very involved with the leadership
of the University of Cambridge. Furthermore, students receive mentorship form
different parties in the university. These parties majorly include the faculty
in which the student is involved. The mentoring programs are mainly there to
help guide the student to the right career path (Corrigan, 2012). Students are therefore able to
interact with instructors that are majorly vested in different areas of study.
These instructors go ahead to advice the students appropriately according to
one’s passion for a certain profession. The students then hold onto the advice
and try to major on a career path that they most likely will enjoy throughout
their lifetime.
Students with different ethnic
backgrounds are enrolled in the University of Cambridge every year. These
students come from nations all over the world. Therefore, there are some
cultural differences that may arise from time to time. However, when the
students or the members of the faculty are admitted into the university. There
are special training classes that are offered to make people coming from different
backgrounds to interact, share ideas and work together to the betterment of
their individual lives as students and as personnel. These training courses are
conducted by diversity professionals. These professionals are well informed in
training people how to behave in a multicultural setting in order to avoid
conflicts that may bring about negative results (Corrigan, 2012). However, it is always up to the
student staff and faculty to decide whether what they have been trained will be
put into good use. With such training courses being offered to students, staff
and faculty. Leading a group of individuals in such a multicultural setting
becomes a relatively easy task. Therefore, as a leader, such training not only
benefits the University but all the individuals that are involved with the
university.
Stakeholders are generally the people
that are either directly or indirectly involved or affected by the works of a
certain entity. In this case stakeholders are as important to the university as
any other student and member of staff in the university. Therefore, it would be
a prudent practice to ensure that all the stakeholders of the University
receive diversity training. The University has since developed training
programs that involve diversity training for the stakeholders. Through such
training courses, the stakeholders of the university are well trained to be
aware of the diverse nature of individuals and how to co-exist in a
multi-cultural setting (Smith et
al., 2016).
However, much leadership qualities
tend to be grown through interactions with the group being led. For instance,
one cannot say he is a leader without having shown the ability to lead at a
previous capacity of leadership that they held. Consequently, Leadership is
diversity, and diversity is leadership. Therefore, to be a student leader in
such an esteemed institution of higher education beckons one to be diverse in
the running of the day to day student leadership operations.
