The article titled “Factors impacting the adoption decision of health data standards in tertiary healthcare organization in Saudi Arabia,” establishes that the lack of adequate policies and information management tends to compromise the adoption of health data standards. The adoption of data standards would facilitate the implementation of health policies that are pertinent to the growth of the organization.  One of the significant barriers that the healthcare organizations tend to face is the lack of interoperability of the health information systems. Such results in acquisition of data quality that is compromised and would not be efficient in the formulation of critical policies within the healthcare structure.

The innovations that need to be undertaken in relation to the health data standards needs to then meet the standards established by the Roger’s model. The standards to be met include observability, relative advantage, trialibility, compatibility and complexity. Any new form of innovation that has been brought about needs to be easy to understand to use and should be superior to the substitutes that are in current use. However, the innovations related to health information systems also need to be examined in light of the switching costs and network externalize theories. As such, the utility of the innovation needs to be in tandem with the number of users of the select innovation and the standard specific investment that would need to be brought by the management to realize such an innovation. The theories are also defined by the core standards that would need to be realized upon the purchase of utilization of a health information.

Innovation and adoption in an organization requires adequate policies and procedures that guide the whole process of innovation and adoption in each and every organization. The support that such an organization requires during innovation and adoption includes; human and financial support, training programmes and awareness campaigns as well as allocating the intended technical. Ideally, lack of medical information management is also another issue that needs to be tackled. Through engaging clinical expertise in the adoption of the health data standards is very significant. Since clinical experts are aware of the contents of the standards and are capable of giving directions .Additionally, clinical experts can give ways through which the required data structures and exchange can be easily derived. There are factors that influence the adoption decision of the health data standards in healthcare organizations in Saudi Arabia. Such are the national healthcare system that is the most important aspect in the development of appropriate strategies for solving the healthcare issues.
