Assignment description

You will conduct an analysis or criticism of a recent public speech. Please use standard set of categories including introduction, body (Ethos, Pathos and logos, organization and supporting material), conclusion, delivery, auedience adaptation and any meaningful critique of the rhetorical text you are examining; in other words, be sure to conclude whether you evaluate the speech negatively or positively based on their ability to follow general guidelines provided in a public speaking class.

Guidelines on choosing a speech

1. It must be a public address; please find both a video of the speech and the transcript (Include a copy of the transcript with the paper).
2. International speeches/speakers are okay, but hopefully, a translation of the foreign speech will be made available.
3. Remember that given the election year (and the recent conventions), it will be incredibly easy to locate a political speech if you need a suggestion. Grassroots and local political or protest speeches are also acceptable.

Your criticism should include a number of elements:

1. An introduction with a thesis statement (Not for the speech, but your thesis.
2. Context and description of your speech's occasion, rhetorical situation, relevance, purpose, e.t.c and a summary of the speech's content.
3. An analysis of the text in light of the categories provided above.
4. Your overal evaluation and a conclusion: how would you 'grade' the speech? (You can issue it a grade if you like or describe it as effective/ineffective/persuasive/inspirational/etc.)

Evaluative Criteria

1. The quality of your analysis- provide a meaningful illumination of your text and the quality arguments to support your ideas.
2. The quality of your writing- the paper should be free of grammatical errors. This is a formal paper,  and your writing should reflect that.

Your ability to meet the logistical demands of the paper.

a. 22-4 pages in length (Going over the page limit is okay but please do not go under.

b. Use 12 point, Times New Roman or Arial font (double space)

c. Please cite the speech on a reference pae and include its transcript (Adhere to MLA or APA)
