discussed in this unit. You can also illustrate these concepts and ideas through visual
examples from popular culture, social or mass media.
Either
1. Critically examine the concept of the subject in Althusser (structuralist approach) and
Foucault (poststructuralist approach), highlighting any key differences and similarities.
Use examples from one or two institutions e.g. family, communications (internet, social
media, print press, television, film etc), or religions (system of Christianity etc) to support
your analysis.
OR
2. Critically examine the concept of the everyday in Adorno and Horkheimer’s work
(structuralist approach) and De Certeau’s work (poststructuralist approach). Use
example(s) from popular culture (i.e. music, video, television, film etc) and/or social media
or mass media that shows the difference between a structuralist approach and a
poststructuralist approach to the everyday.
