Other key responsibilities include: providing comprehensive evidence based nursing care to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; facilitate and promote patient safety and quality of care; uphold the nursing values of Accountability, Compassion and Continuous Learning and Teamwork. This case study assessment is designed to aid in preparing you for the transition from student nurse to graduate RN. The case study assessment requires you to address the below two (2) selection criteria using case study examples from your current or previous clinical practicums.

Essential Selection Criteria:

1. Demonstrates participation in team building, leadership and decision making 2. Sound knowledge of nursing standards and commitment to excellence in patient care When addressing the selection criteria you must use a different example for each criteria. The criteria must be addressed in the STARR format (see below for more information on STARR). It is strongly recommended that you use the headings; Situation; Task; Action; Results; and Reflection to help guide your paper All aspects of each selection criteria must be addressed with appropriate examples given to demonstrate achieving the criteria. Each selection criteria must be critically analysed using evidence from current literature to support your example. Recommendation/s for YOUR future practice must also be included in the reflection. Some tips for the Case Study:

 You will need to read broadly on the topic and provide strong evidence to critically analyse the example and support the justification.  This assessment requires you to critically analyse NOT just describe the examples used  Each selection criteria should be roughly 500-600 words each  Recent literature, within the last 8 years are acceptable.  Literature must be from a credible source. Sources Not considered credible are: Google, health line, better health channel or Wikipedia  Do not use the words “I”, “me” or “my”. Remember this is an academic paper. If appropriate you may refer to yourself at Student Nurse  A paragraph consists of 3 or more sentences  Do not use colloquial language. STARR?

Situation Describe the situation faced and your role in the scenario. This section does NOT require references as you are describing a situation that is unique to you Task Discuss the main issues involved and what needed to be done? What tasks needed to be achieved? What was the desired outcome? Describe any obstacles that had to be overcome? (Only if relevant). This section may not necessarily require references, it is dependent on the task you set out to complete. References are only required if you are citing evidence based practice. Action- This section requires current literature to support your actions What steps/actions were taken to complete the task? For example resources, people involved. Please make sure you use current literature to support your actions here. You must demonstrate critical thinking in this section. The action that you completed is not to be referenced, as it is completed by you (the student nurse) BUT you must justify the action using current literature. Results What was the outcome? Did it change things in the workplace? Reflection- This section requires you to reflect on YOUR practice What lessons did you learn from this event? What would you do differently next time? What recommendations do you have for your future practice if you experienced a similar situation again? The recommendations for YOUR future practice not for nursing practice in general.
