The center of interest of this paper is that of operation ghost stories retrieved from Inside the Russian Spy Case. This case is a good example of espionage that started during the time of the Cold War and it has continued up to today. Russian spies used this practice of spying on U.S. soil in an attempt to obtain political and military information. According to FBI investigators, 10 Russian spies have been arrested over the past few years and arraigned in court. These Russian Foreign Intelligence Services (SVR) operatives were accused of spotting and assessing and they finally pled guilty. They had enjoyed living comfortably in the United States for decades despite the fact that they were known as illegals. The illegals had conspired to serve as unlawful agents of the Russian Federation within the U.S.

When mitigating both domestic and international crime, there are certain implications of the procedural laws that are inevitable. For instance, below are some of the implications when dealing with cases where Russian spies are the culprits:

• It is not always easy to apprehend SVR operatives in a federal court because the procedures involved in such a case are different from the procedures followed when dealing with a domestic crime. The alleged perpetrators have their constitutional rights to apply in their self-defense and this makes the quest for justice to be a very challenging process. 
• The lawyers who are hired by both sides table their submissions to the court, and the judges are left to make their final judgments which may not be necessarily free and fair on a humane basis. ( Reiman & Leighton, 2015). 

According to procedural laws, American citizens are entitled to certain rights and responsibilities as it has been stipulated in the constitution irrespective of the geographical location. Below are some of the rights and responsibilities of American citizens:

• Right to fair process in all hearings and equal treatment under the law.
• Right to be protected from unjustifiable and unreasonable searches by the police.
• Right to protection from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, race or ethnic background.
• Right to support and defend the constitution in conjunction with the legal institutions such as courts and the police.
• Responsibility to respect and obey federal, state and local laws. Responsibility to serve on a jury when called upon (Cole et al. 2016).
