Thesis Statement: The persona in the poem was at a point of hopelessness as anything they tried to do did not yield any fruits but disappointments which were against their expectations. Evidence 1: You kept casting your line, and when it did not come back empty, it was entangled with mine. Analysis 1: This line is a manifestation of the efforts that were being made by the persona and the father in event of trying to fish from the river. Their expectations earlier were that they would a lot of harvest as at the beginning of the poem the persona claims that the river was full of Salmon. Instead of getting the Salmon from the river, their lines entangled each other a sign that nothing good was coming from their expedition.
