Outline

Emmanuel Kant formulated the principles of judging the morality of an action by the nature of the

actions rather than the outcome or the will of the agent. To understand the motives of duty, it is important to understand the goodwill and moral worth.

-Goodwill- What makes an individual good is his tenure of a will to make judgments by the moral

law. A person with a goodwill is committed only to make decisions are morally worthy and believes that moral concerns are the conclusive reasons for guiding his or her behavior.

- Worth- Acting on the basis of duty. To act on the basis of moral law implies that one is moved to

act by recognizing that the law is a supremely authoritative standard that unites us to experience a better good and happiness.

-The motive of Duty- Bare respect for the moral law. To take action based on the moral law implies

that one is enthused to act by recognizing that the law is a superlatively an authoritative benchmark that unites us to experience a better good and happiness.

Conclusion

Duty is strengthened by a moral constraint that makes us perform actions whether we like it or not,

but because it is rational and the right thing. As such, motivation of duty without other inclinations such as desires, pleasures is what makes a persons action to have a moral worth and not the outcome of the action.
