Ethics on Elderly in Care Homes
Google Scholar is one of the sites that was used to obtain information about ethics on the elderly in
care homes. The key words that were used when sourcing this information were ethics and elderly care
homes. Upon searching, I was presented with a large volume of articles. I then narrowed my study such that
the articles to be used would be recent, that is not older than five years. Still, the volume of articles presented
was large, a significant number of these articles did not seem to have the information that is in line with the
topic of study. However, I found two articles; one titled Robot carers, ethics, and older people which greatly
the concern of how the elderly people lack autonomy during their care. Most of them are lonely and isolated
and this has prompted the development of robots to take care of them a decision that Sorell & Draper (2014)
challenge by point out is not ethical. Another article was Dialysis or conservative care for frail older
patients: ethics of shared decision-making which seeks to examine the ethics of involving patients in making
important clinical decisions (Muthalagappan et al. 2013).
Both Social media and Athens present a major challenge when sourcing information. This is because
information from these sources is not credible since anyone can login to their account and post whatever
they want. However, sources of information in Google scholar are peer reviewed hence more credible than
social media. The search words ethics in elderly care were used and wide range of information was obtained
most of which was about people complaining about the type of services their loved ones were receiving. It
was a challenge to ascertain whether the views presented in the sites were authentic.
