Why is it that the higher the education level an individual has, the less likely he or she is to have a traditional funeral versus opting for cremation?
Introduction
Most Christian burials have a common phrase which is All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and
all turn to dust again (Bourne, Crossfield & Nicholas, 2017). This burial phrase means that since man was
created with dust, so he must return to it. According to Christian faithful, traditional burial marks the final
journey for the dead to the next life (Davies, 2017). However, currently, individuals are embracing
cremation in line with the deceased wish or family agreement. However, is education level has also been
said to have an impact on the manner in which people currently choose to be buried. This paper will provide
a detailed analysis on the issue of education and the choice of cremation over traditional burial practices.
In most instances, the higher the educational level the higher the chances of questioning the existing
societal norms. Despite the fact that most educated persons, believe in their religion and its practices, to a
certain extent, their choices change with their level of education increases. One of the reasons for choosing
cremation over traditional burial is the increase in the level of awareness. Education tags along the issue of
environmental effects and the cost, which accompanies cremation, in comparison with that of the traditional
burial. The former in this case is superior. Additionally, education has an influence on individuals ideology. Prior to attaining a certain
educational level, people are likely to choose traditional burial over cremation. However, this selection
changes after attaining a certain level of education. In most instances, a person experience changes in their
thoughts and beliefs. The common explanation for this sudden change of heart is their mingling with other
learners. The result of this interaction is the exchange of cremation ideas.
