Healthy Food

Good nutrition is one of the paramount parts of leading a healthy lifestyle. A good diet combined with physical activity can help reduce a person's risk of chronic illnesses, attain and maintain a healthy weight, and promote good overall health. This year, I participated in a service-learning program where learning objectives are combined with the provision of community service to offer a learning experience that is pragmatic and progressive whilst helping society. Service learning allows learners to link what they are learning in class with action, whilst helping to better the lives of other people around them.

Section 1

This year, I had a service-learning experience where I helped society by engaging in a healthy food drive project in the cultural center of Erie. My project during the service learning was offering healthy food such as milk, fruits, cereal snacks, and bread to kids in an Arabic language class in culture mission of Eire from the age of 7-12 years in a language class. I chose healthy food project because many kids are not educated on the importance of healthy food and they tend to consume unhealthy foods such as Junk food, food high in calories that negatively impact their health. 

Section 2:

During the service learning project, the main activities that I did include offering healthy food together with other people who work in the Cultural Center of Erie. On the same note, I helped in educating the kids on the importance of taking healthy food, demonstrated how to maintain hygiene by observing simple hygienic practices such as washing hands before meals and after visiting the toilet, how to choose food that is healthy and make eating healthy food a habit in their life. I learned a lot about empathy, the importance of helping people in society and much more about teamwork and how to work as a team to help better the community and humanity.
