History and Purpose The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is a non-profit organization which was founded in 1919. The organization which has its headquarters in Switzerland is renowned for its role of control and planning of emergency services, disaster management, and humanitarian assistance. During its inception, the sole objective IFRC was to facilitate the assistance and protection of war during the First World War (IFRC, n.d).
