Nursing Care Plan for Ischemic Stroke A stroke is a condition which is caused by decreased blood circulation to specific parts of of the brain. The condition can be classified into; hemorrhagic and ischemic. An ischemic stroke is caused by a blood vessel bursting and spilling blood in the brain. After a patient suffers a stroke in the left hemisphere the right side of the body is paralyzed. The condition is known as Acute CVA right hemiplegia. On one side of the body both the hand, face and leg can be affected or if the patient is lucky enough only the face and leg muscles. Etiology Ischemic strokes are registered as the 85% of all strokes. Individuals on anticoagulation therapy are the at the highest risk of the condition. When these patients become sub-therapeutic, their blood becomes thick and easily forms clots which have a high possibility to end in the brain. Diabetes is another risk factor especially the diabetes type 2. Other risk factors include; hypertension, cardiac dysrhythmias, obesity and excessive use of oral contraceptives. [Show Less]
