Introduction

Notably, nursing is a healthcare professional that is much focused in healthcare provision to families and individuals to attain, maintain, and recovering optimal health and quality of life. Multiple concepts have been adopted in nursing in order to achieve the central objectives. One of those concepts is patient-centered care (PCC), which is a concept where an individual healthcare needs and the desired outcome are the key determiners of the decision making process and healthcare quality measurement. In this regard, the patients become partners with their healthcare providers, and this has an impact not only on delivery of services but on also on the mental, emotional, social and spiritual orientation of the patients (Barry, & Edgman-Levitan, 2012). It is an approach that helps in promoting collaboration and shared decision making between the care providers and patients. The fundamental focus of care is to improve individual health outcomes. 

PCC concept is supported by nursing need theory. Need theory focuses on the need to elevate or increase the independence of the patients to make the process of healthcare efficient and effective. The theory stipulates that people have basic needs that inherent to healthcare (McCormack & McCance, 2016). The major concepts that the theory focuses on health, individual, nursing an environment which is also much emphasized in PCC concept. The objective of this paper is to conduct a detailed analysis of the PCC concept and evaluate how it is applied in the nursing profession.
