TWO texts: Gutner (textbook), Ch5: World Bank and Winters and Gould, WB Accountability (see attachments)

Part 1: Read the TWO texts carefully. Identify the core argument / conclusion for each text and some supporting ideas/facts used to back it up. What do you find most important/interesting?

Part 2: Compare the two arguments/ideas you identified in the two readings. How similar/different are they? Conclude with your own take on the topic. What is your take-away? (avoid unsubstantiated statements like I agree with the author etc., if you do, say why).

Structure your paper in four parts:
1) first summary: what does the author set out to do? What is main conclusion?
2) second summary: what does the author set out to do? What is main conclusion?
3) comparative analysis: identify common and unique elements
4) conclusion: synthesize your own conclusion. What do you take away from reading these two texts? What issue emerge as critical in your view? What questions do you have?

Length: 600 to 1000 words. The two summaries will likely take most space, section 3 & 4 could possibly be collapsed into one segment.

Use word count, not page count! Note word count on top of page.

Save paper: single space, print on both sides of the paper!

Grading: You will be graded on
- your ability to succinctly identify key issues addressed by the authors,
- your ability to bring out common themes and differences in your final analysis
- organization and writing
