Introduction

The contemporary world has witnessed an increase in significance of issues related to global health. The growing concerns on prevalent problems are fueled by the rise in refugee and migrant crises. As such, the World Health Organization recently held an international forum intended at promoting the health of migrants and refugees. The organization has realized that there are growing concerns owing to the poor management of health for this population. Statistics indicate an alarming rate of deaths as a result of poor management of immigrant and refugee health. I will undertake a synthesis to determine credible sources for use in researching this subject matter. The paper details causes of poor health among this population, such as discrimination, lack of protective policies and poor access, while also highlighting possible remedies which include more robust policies and finding solutions to push factors in the source countries. 

Discussion

To understand the implication of health issues related to immigrants and refugees, it is essential first to establish statistics that justify the research. For this Batalova, Shymonyak and Mittelstadts book highlights the alarming statistics behind global immigration and refugee crises. The author notes that there are an estimated 69 million displaced people today, with about 25 million of them crossing internationally recognized boundaries in search of a better life away from the troubles in their home countries (Batalova, Shymonyak and Mittelstadt). These statistics indicate that the identified health concern has a far-reaching implication on a vast population. As such, the research is justified in that the issues identified add to existing body of knowledge regarding global health and the ongoing refugee crises, which affects many countries in Europe, Middle-East, North-Africa and the US.
