David Roberts and Barrack Obama have written articles touching on environmental protection. In
spite of their varying angles, they aim to tell a consistent story of the need to be more interested in
safeguarding the environment. With the existing challenges of climate change and global warming, it is
more necessary to establish the mechanisms which are likely to create a lasting solution to the persistent
problem. Thus, both households and industry need to be more proactive in the adoption of specific measures
which are likely to create the best outcomes. In regards to Roberts, he is skewed against the wealthy in
discussing the concept of carbon pollution. He aims to show that, often, the wealthy are to blame for the
pollution seen around the world. Obama, on the other hand, aims to show that the idea of clean energy is a
reality and is more likely to grow in the current economy. This narrative aims to compare the writing styles
of the two authors highlighting the similarities and differences that exist between them.
One evident similarity between the writing styles of the two is that they both use key terms touching
on environmental protection. These include carbon emissions, global warming, and climate change. For
instance, Roberts states that the actions of the wealthy people in society only help to increase the carbon
footprint in the environment (Roberts 134). He sites activities such as the consumption of meat and using of
cars and household appliances as some of how the wealthy propagate the concept of the release of large
amounts of carbon to the environment. Obama talks about carbon emissions where he states that between
2008 and 2015, such a trend within the energy sector dropped by 9.5% (Obama 125). Thus, they both use
terms that the audience can easily identify with and establish that they are notable in enabling them to read
through the discourse established in the articles. The audience attains an easy chance to establish the main
message which the authors aim to put forth concerning their arguments.
Another similarity in their writings is based on the main purpose which the authors have. Notably,
they agree with the view that the world is under a constant threat of environmental degradation through
pollution. Thus, it is important to support various activities that will help to reverse the situation and ensure
that people are exposed to the best conditions which they could live in with great ease. Roberts goes ahead to
provide pertinent solutions in regard to the methods which can be applied to reduce the general carbon
footprint experienced around the world. These include recycling, reusing and reducing, riding bicycles and
walking (Roberts 134). All these approaches are highly important concerning cutting down on the amount of
carbon which is released to the environment. Obama asserts that it is important to device the best strategies
which will help to reverse the problem of climate change. Climate change has picked up a huge momentum
and it is only through proactive measures that the best outcomes can be obtained, especially, in regards to
ensuring that the world does not continue to experience extreme outcomes from the situation.
