A Case Study of an Arab Learner to Investigate English Phonotactics in SLA ----EXCERPT FROM THE PAPER---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The case study investigates a twenty-one year old male Iranian student, who majors in the English language in one of the public universities in Australia. The subject, who is bilingual, is proficient with the Amani dialect of Arabic (L1) and English language (L2). He was born in Tehran and spent a majority of his early childhood in Tehran, Iran. He attained his primary and secondary education in the country before moving to Australia in September 2014. He was enrolled in one of the universities in the country to pursue a degree in Education, majoring English Language and Literature. The Iranian curriculum institutes the use of Arabic in learning of significant disciplines such as Science and Mathematics. Although English is usually taught as one of the subjects, very few learners learn the language due to the fame of the Arabic language as the nation’s official language. The participant was introduced to the language during his formative high school education. He has four years’ experience learning and conversing in English in an education environment. [Show Less]
