In Unit 4, our one and only chapter on Religion and Magic gave us insight as to how anthropologists try to understand the significance of religion and magic. We looked at topics like the people who practice rituals, various religions, societal customs and beliefs, and the attempts to discover symbolic meanings.
For your Unit 4 Topic Essay you are to watch one movie/film, either from the list below or one of your choice, that relates to religion and magic. You are to incorporate your understanding of religion and magic from the movie/film and what you have learned in the chapter. You are to use six terms from the chapter in your 2 page movie analysis. Although Hollywood can over exaggerate certain religions and magic for the thrill of a movie, try to take into perspective what the underlining theme is of the movie/film you choose. *if you do not have a preferred movie/film and rather write your essay on a television series, you may do that. Please select two episodes of your television series and follow the same question format below.
