For
this essay analysis, you will write about a problem in your professional
discourse community and a solution for it that you propose. You will
incorporate three reputable digital sources from the web. This means the essay
draft needs at least three in-text citations, one per source, included on your
works-cited page.
1. Provide an introduction that describes your professional discourse community
as an overview and a thesis statement that briefly names the problem and your
proposed solution.
2. Describe the problem, its causes, and the effects on your professional
discourse community. Analyze all your claims/points/reasons with thorough
explanation and supportive evidence. As evidence include ample detailed
examples with your explanations and at least three in-text citations throughout
the entire essay, one from each source, to enhance this and/or any other part
of your essay.
2. Describe your proposed solution and how it will impact your community.
Again, analyze all your claims/points/reasons with thorough explanation and
supportive evidence. As evidence include ample detailed examples with your
explanations and at least three in-text citations throughout the entire essay,
one from each source, to enhance this and/or any other part of your essay.
3. Discuss how the community would view your proposed solution. Who in the
community would agree with it? Who in the community would object to it?
Remember that your community comprises people with various roles and
identities. So, for example, in a healthcare professional discourse community
comprised of patients, nurses, doctors, and multiple others, a potential
problem is the unavailability of doctors at certain times to make immediate
needed patient medication changes if a patient is not responding well to a
drug. A proposed solution might be to allow nurses and physician assistants
expanded responsibilities for making patient medication changes in certain
circumstances. However, doctors might object to that for a variety of reasons.
As the essay writer, consider carefully and explain who in your professional
discourse community might object to your proposed solution to the problem you
observe and why.
4. Be sure to include a conclusion which summarizes the main points made in
your essay. No new information or points should be presented here.
******Please discuss a veterinarian professional discourse community. Below are
some challenges faced in this discourse community. Please keep at least one (or
all) of these examples the same however you can provide different information
for these examples. ****
1.) Handling Ignorant Pet Owners
As a current vet assistant, often times I see many pet owners who are not
knowledgeable about their pets. They buy them because they're "cute"
. They don't take the time to do research on the animals. So these owners have
no clue the needs for the pet. For example, when purchasing a lizard you can't
just go to the store, buy a bag of food, plop it down and be good. There are
numerous species of lizards, and you should be willing to offer the care yours
needs. Owners will need to be aware of the lifespan, types of food, habitat
requirements (including cage size and temperature) and the lizard’s size when
it’s fully grown. Some iguanas get to be 6 feet long and need a big living
area. One who doesn't know this information could be left with a some serious
problems. If these owners are unaware of certain kinds of shots their animal
needs, they will become ill. This is heart breaking to watch as someone in this
discourse community because things like this can be avoidable.
2.)Managing Frightened Animals
While most animals are lovable, the frightened ones can appear to viscous. When
working on animals who are frightened they could lash out, bite or attack a
worker or their owner. This could result in owners thinking you or the other
workers are doing something wrong to their pet. It could also result in one of
the workers or owners getting hurt. This could be stressful for someone working
in this discourse community.
3.) Handling low income pet owners
Some pet owners simply don’t have the funds to take care of their pets. It’s
heartbreaking, but what can you do? Watching an animal in need of medication or
surgery is hard to turn away when most veterinarians are apart of this
discourse community to help these animals. Most vet clinics do not offer
insurance for their pets and if they do, it doesn't always cover all of the
procedure cost. I would say this is very challenging for some one in this
discourse community because you either have to turn away a sick patient or
somehow be able to reduce the price of the medication/ procedure. If a clinic
lowers a price for one person it could cause some problems for the company.
These problems include loosing money and creating angry customers for the ones
who paid full price.
