Background: The United States
has experienced several natural disasters in its history. Some of the disasters
include floods, earthquakes, wildfires, and tornadoes. Typically, these natural
occurrences are famous for their destruction of infrastructures, properties,
and human casualties. The contributory factor includes climatic changes and
human error. Federal agencies, Federal, States, and Local governments have been
coming up with mitigating measures to reduce the impact of natural disasters in
the U.S. A study of the successful mitigating measures will be prudent in the
prevention of the effects of the natural disasters when they occur.
Objective: The primary aim of
this study is to investigate the available mitigating practices used in
handling natural disasters. The research will also explore the successful
stories of mitigating natural disasters in the U.S.
Methodology: The study will
involve a mixed-method, where there will be a combination of both the
quantitative and qualitative study methods. The collection of data will,
through the previous researches, questionnaires, and interviews. The data
analysis methods applicable in the study include narrative analysis and the
measure of central tendency.
Finding: Different
governments have similar and diverse mitigating measures on natural disasters
Conclusion: Mitigation of natural disasters is the
best option for dealing with the occurrence of natural disasters. The
mitigating approaches applicable by the relevant agencies and the levels of
administration depend on the severity of the situation. The preparation by the
government, communities, and individuals is necessary in the case of natural
disasters. This study will be significant in highlighting the mitigating
measures, which would help unprepared authorities to deal with the issue of
natural disasters. There still exists a gap in the study on the mitigating
measures against natural disasters, which this feature is necessitating
additional studies.
