In the modern era, human beings are faced with several threats associated with computer data. These include data loss and manipulation by other parties. Consequently, the need for backup and recovery practices arises in retaliation to these new threats Backup and recovery systems provide storage and data retrieval solution to individuals and business entities. According to Amvrosiadis, G., & Bhadkamkar, M. (2015), they also safeguard data against potential business disaster. The original resolution of this dissertation is to identify and compare two backup and recovery system vendors, providing strengths and weaknesses in each and make a relevant recommendation for the best vendor to install its system in a medium sized entity which maintains stock market information and houses about 3,500 employees. In the research, I chose Symantec and IBM Tivoli highlighting the strengths and weakness of both systems. Symantec has received worldwide acclamation due to its unique features present. It has been a pillar for storage solution providers mainly because of its publishing of two of the top backup and recovery systems found in the market. The product has excelled in both small and mid-sized business entities. It has also succeeded in Veritas NetBackup for mid and enterprise market.
