In January 2018, the Manchester Art Gallery temporarily removed John William Waterhouses painting Hylas and the Nymphs from its display. The removal of this painting, which depicted seven nude nymphs seeking to lure Hylas into a pool, was a highly debated move aimed at addressing problematic depictions of women.
Just previously, in December 2017, the Metropolitan Museum of Art rejected a petition signed by more than 11,000 people asking for the removal of Balthus Thrse Dreaming from its permanent display -- or, at very least, to include a warning label alongside the painting given Balthus artistic infatuation with young girls.

Additionally, in October 2018, The Getty Museum opened an exhibition devoted to the Renaissance nude, which sparked debate around the role of these artworks in museum displays.
