The recent trends within the American economic environment are highly characterized by the return of various manufacturing firms into the country, looking to take advantage of the favorable conditions being cultivated by the government and relevant institutions. This has raised questions about the expected impact that this phenomenon would have on the employment landscape of workers in America. Currently, a large percentage of the American labor force can be identified to be reliant on service sector jobs, where the average wages paid are considered to be rather low (Appelbaum pg. 6). Thus, in the face of the industrialization revolution, there are questions on whether the present workforce will look to stay in the service-sector industry or migrate to the high-paying jobs in the manufacturing firms. Using specific reference to different literary texts, this essay will argue that the probable effect is that low-paying service-sector workers will either increase or maintain their jobs compared to moving to the high-paying manufacturing jobs.
